It all started with a story, or rather, a listener. Andy Sewell is an artist of sound and he strives to recreate local experiences through high quality podcasts and radio mixes. Recently, at Sonoma County Surf and Skate, located on Kentucky Boulevard, he exhibited sounds from Petaluma and beyond. There were MP3 players and headphones situated around the shop available for people to listen too. One of the features was of our very own Petaluma resident Eli Lucas. The interview and talk show combo highlighted Eli’s groovy rollerskating moves and how he has impacted the downtown cityscape. The mix included audio bytes from residents, Eli, and the city’s ebb and flow, truly capturing the heartbeat of Petaluma. Recapturing and telling a story is what Sewell aims to do and now that he has left his job as a public radio producer, he will have more time to encompass telling Petaluma’s stories. He’s been volunteering at the local public radio station KPCA and emphasizes the involvement of the community in his podcasts.

His current project is titled “The Petalumans.” At the public listening exhibition, he shared a preview of the local Petaluma stories that are to come. Looking into the future, he wants to hear, record, and share more stories and he hopes to release them in the late Spring of this year. If you have a story to tell or want to listen to what Sewell has now, you can email him at [email protected] or use his website: https://www.audioephemera.com/thepetalumans.
